This is Brenda Rainer and her little sister Tess, the two deaf characters I created some years ago. I have been thinking about them for quite some time and decided I would like to do more comics of those sisters soon. Should be interesting!

In this cartoon: although Brenda and Tess don't live in Indiana, they nevertheless decided to come out and show their support for Indiana School for the Deaf as the rally continues to demand for "Deaf Board Now!"

Came across this website [link] the other day and liked the idea so much that I was inspired to draw this picture and submitted it to the Smurfs forum of which I'm a member. (It was done for fun and to bring awareness to this Books for Treats website, not for profit.)

It's been a while since I drew Smurfs...and Sassette and Snappy happen to be two of my favorite Smurfs. ^^

Dressed Up for Halloween

The two sisters (still haven't offically given them names, but I'll say the dark-haired girl is Barbara and her sister is Tandy) from an aforementioned one-time comic were dressed up for Halloween, and since SigNews was starting to publish comics in color, I submitted this one and also the comic (still b&w) to them in 2005. I don't remember if they ever published either of my cartoons. :S

BTW, if anyone can remember who the "SuperDeafy" is, more powers to you! ;)

The Sisters - a one-time comic

Does it seems familiar to you? Yes, I liked the "Dog is Dirty" joke in a old Deaf Girl Scout comic so much, I used it again in this comic. And the girls are also familiar; they are the same girls (and the same dog) who appeared in the Deaf Girl Scout comics; this time they returned as the biological sisters (the girl with braids is still deaf, while the other girl is hearing who also knows sign language) living with a divorced mother. I was thinking of doing a series of comic strips focusing on those girls and their mother, but I never got around to doing anything further with them as I was very busy working on the "Have You Ever Seen" book, now published by the ASLRose Co.

At least you can now see I was getting much better, art-wise, now that I have Photoshop and Illustrator. :P

The Deaf Girl Scout Introduction (OLD)

This was an introduction that appeared in the Buckeye newsletter (published by The Buckeye Trails Girl Scout Council in Ohio) in late 1980's. Before I drew the Deaf Girl Scout comics for Buckeye, I had drawn various other Girl Scouts-related cartoons (not deaf-related, though). In total of time I've contributed those cartoons to Buckeye was over two years.

Those Deaf Girl Scout comics are OLD. You can see how crappy my artworks are, long before I discovered Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. :PPP Just consider them a part of my lifelong progress of an artist improving her skills.

Interesting Trivia: I used to be a girl scout when I was younger, so this is partly why I drew the Girl Scout comics using a fictional deaf character. ;)
